New Research Grant Winners Announced by the NZ Society of Authors and Auckland Museum

The New Zealand Society of Authors and Auckland Museum are delighted to  announce the recipient of the NZSA Auckland Museum Library National Research Grant is Michelle Elvy (photo).

The national grant of $3500 is complemented by two local (Auckland) grants of $1500 awarded to Suzanne Gee and Tania Hutley.

The grants were offered for the first time in 2012 to provide an opportunity for three selected writers to use the considerable facilities and resources of the Auckland Museum library in order to further develop a fiction or non-fiction project.

Judging panel convenor Graeme Lay said the applications were judged on both the literary quality of the writing sample provided and the relevance of the Auckland Museum Library to the project. 

'Michelle's project “Flashback: A New Zealand History in Micro Moments”  impressed the selection committee with its professionalism and originality. Her project also seemed well suited to the use of the resources housed in the Auckland Museum Library.’

Museum Librarian, Bruce Ralston, adds that the Library holds one of New Zealand’s major research collections and the breadth and depth of the historical record is well suited to Michelle’s project and to the research of the other two grantees who are working on historical novels.  The Library is available for use by the general public, as well as academics and researchers.
